Jonathan Adler’s Musings: Minimalism vs. Maximalism

Do you prefer simple, clean lines to rule your interior design, or do you believe in incorporating every decorative item you love in one room (in a tasteful manner of course)? Or maybe you are dead in the middle with a love for clean lines and various groupings of decorative items. If you prefer both then you are on the same creative length as the wonderful designer Jonathan Adler. Adler often breaks down his musings on his website and one that stuck out to us was his detailing of minimalism vs. maximalism- the perfect description for his style. If you are family with Adler’s work then you know he creates simple design elements in a minimalist nature, but pairs a great deal of them together for a maximalist room. Check out Adler’s definition of minimalism and maximalism and see how he combines the two to create jaw-dropping interior designs.

Minimalism

  • simple lines
  • clean shapes
  • clear patterns
  • simple materials

Maximalism

  • filling your room with all the things you love
  • bold gestures
  • strong colors
