The Beauty of Tulips

We’ve been having quite a love affair with Holly and her blog Things That Inspire.  Not only is she an Arkansas native, but her design sense is inspiring many with each post that she writes.

Recently Holly wrote a guest post for At Home in Arkansas and mentioned our work on the Ashmore cottage.  She said that the tulips used in the kitchen gave the space ” a sweet burst of color”.

Thanks again Holly!!

Smoke and Mirrors

Eller Decor said it best in their article Decorating with Mirrors, “With so many shapes, sizes, and styles, mirrors are a versatile decorative element that give instant polish to a room with little effort. They can do wonders—from illuminating dark corners to adding elegance and drama to an area to creating the illusion of space. They can even serve as works of art. There’s a mirror for every taste, whether yours is ultramodern or ultraclassic.”

Here are a few tips on changing the look of a room by just adding a mirror.

  • In a narrow corridor or hallway place a mirror on one of the walls (preferably the longest wall) to instantly elongate the space.  The reflection of the light will make the room appear larger than it is.
  • Haven’t found the right piece of artwork to hang over the mantle?  A beautifully decorative mirror can, at times, replace a piece of art.
  • Decorating with mirrors can also improve interior lighting. If your room is painted in a darker color, adding mirrors to one or more walls can offset the darkness. You can also place mirrors opposite of windows to reflect natural light and brighten the entire room.

Below are some photos of rooms that we have designed where adding a window does wonders to the space.

The Circus is in Town

We love reading other blogs and seeing what designers are doing across the country.   One of our daily reads, Desire to Inspire recently mentioned Kansas based designer Kate Dixon in their post Roll up, roll up … the circus is in town. Now for some designers creating themed rooms for children is a definite don’t, but I must say I fell in love with Kate’s circus themed room.  Take a look at the images below and tell me you don’t feel the same way about this whimsical space created by Kate Dixon and her team at Artistic Living Spaces.

What do you think about themed rooms, yes or no?
