Classic Color Combos: Blue-and-White

Recently, we blogged about being Tangled up in Blue, after seeing the color beautifully envisioned by designers across the country in publications from House Beautiful to Elle Decor, as well as right here in our Bear-Hill Interiors showroom.

And today, we were thrilled to check out the At Home in Arkansas blog to find a blue-and-white, Easter-themed tabletop designed for a DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids) event that Editor Diane Carroll was kind enough to share with her readers from her travels to Kansas City.

Blue-and-white is such a classic color combination, always crisp and fresh in an All-American sort of way, and and we love how celebrity designer Eddie Ross translated it into an Easter egg-stravaganza! Thanks to Diane for sharing this beautiful tabletop.

To see more pictures of this table (including a cameo from Eddie Ross himself), and for more inspired color palettes, get thee to the At Home in Arkansas blog!

Rooms With A View

When designing a room–or a house, for that matter–around spectacular views, how do you outfit the space without detracting from its major source of beauty? That was the challenge Bear-Hill Interiors’ Kevin Walsh and Brett Pitts encountered when they took on a home makeover of their own, for a modest lakeside ranch house they found on Lake Hamilton, which was featured in At Home in Arkansas.

“To make the most of the small, yet incredibly open space, and the lush wilderness that surrounds it, Walsh says he decided to keep the interior very cohesive, with a simple color scheme of white and brown. ‘I didn’t want to take anything away from the view,’ he says, ’so I incorporated a lot of elements that can be seen through, like the fretwork dining chairs, along with glass and other reflective surfaces.’”

And although the house measures just under 1,000 square feet, features like vaulted ceilings, a wall of windows overlooking the lake, and comfortable outdoor areas, Walsh says the “home lives much larger than its footprint. I think most people are surprised that it’s only nine hundred square feet, because the main living space with the expansive window feels large and open.”

Other design elements that please the eye, without distracting: white upholstery in a variety of textures, along with raffia and sisal, and an eclectic selection of accessories, such as Jonathan Adler pottery and vintage glass birds. Says Walsh, “Our mothers were, of course, a little afraid of all the white, but we’ve assured them, and all our friends, that it’s all washable, and that it’s meant to be enjoyed.”

Looking to add a touch of “green” to your home? Bear-Hill Interiors is proud to carry Lee Industries‘ NaturalLEE collection, which features soy-based cushions, recycled fiber filling pillows, organic and natural fabrics, FSC- and SFI-certified wood frames and water-based finishes.

At Home in Arkansas recently published their Green Guide, and here’s what they have to say about NaturalLEE:

“NaturalLee furnishings offer many eco-friendly materials for a one-of-a-kind green design. The seat cushions are made of Preserve foam core with fiber wraps in 100-percent cotton down-proof ticking. The fibers are 80-percent regenerated fibers and replace the petroleum-based ingredients with a renewable soy-based BiOH polyol. The backs and throw pillows are made of 100-percent recycled fibers, while the seat deck and trim pad are made of 80-percent regenerated fibers.

All LEE frames use only water-based frames and the wide variety of fabric choices is all made from organic and natural fibers. As a continued commitment toward a greener future, one tree is donated to American Forests for each piece of naturalLee furniture sold.”
