On Decorating: Canopied Beds

Although Bear Hill Interiors may be new to the blogosphere, that doesn’t keep us from being devoted readers of many a design blog, Southern Chateau not withstanding. We love a post they did recently on canopied beds called Put Some Romance into Your Bedroom.

Whether used in a guest bedroom or the master, canopied beds, which by default include yard upon yard of fabric, drapes and skirts, are indeed nothing short of romantic. How can you help but feel like royalty when falling asleep at night?

Just add plenty of pillows, fresh flowers, comfortable chairs upholstered in lush, tactile fabric, and a good book, and…enjoy!

Interior Design & the Catwalk

In a continuation of our Runway-meets-Interior Design looks (this one again courtesy of At Home Arkansas), check out this Ellie Saab look from her spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection.

In a recent blog post, At Home likened the style to a Little Rock living room we designed for a client that was featured in their August 2009 issue. labeling the look of both the look and our room “classic and sophisticated with a hint of rebelliousness.”

We think that’s pretty right on, considering the homeowner, whom we have worked with before, told us she wanted “a mixture of Paris flat and something a little bit rebellious.” To check out more photos of this gorgeous project in Little Rock’s Pulaski Heights, see “French Dressing” on At Home’s Web site.

Fashion’s Influence on the Home

We love it when elements of fashion design are also applicable to trends in the interior design world, a connection that At Home Arkansas recently reported on in their blog in “At Home Hits the Runway“.

Writes associate editor Paulette Pearson, “I’m admittedly one of those people who, when it comes to home decor, absolutely loves the color white…To me, it creates a great canvas, allowing other elements in a room to pop. So, I of course have a huge crush on Ray and Carrie Bell’s monochromatic master bedroom, which was featured in our August 2009 issue, designed by Kevin Walsh of Bear-Hill Interiors and photographed by Nancy Nolan.”

She continues, “The color palette is clean and fresh, so the vivid Stuart Holcomb painting can take center stage. And the Lucite chair, in a traditional shape no less, is a hip addition to the space. Kind of like this look from the BCBG runway, the master bedroom’s playful mix of neutrals and brights makes it all the more interesting.”

What are some your favorite examples of fashion influencing interior design? We’ll have more examples in an upcoming post.
